Skoove is best suited for adults and teenagers (ages 12+) as it uses cutting-edge computer technology and offers a wide range of genres and courses to learn the piano.
However, we know younger kids enjoy learning and having fun with Skoove, and we recommend they do the lessons together with an adult for extra guidance.

Skoove is designed to teach you how to play piano, so you make best use of the app with a keyboard or piano. Please see below for our keyboard recommendations.

Skoove partnered with many great piano brands to ensure compatibility. On top, most of the below keyboards will ship with a free trial for Skoove (subject to availability in your region)
We’ve put together a comprehensive guide highlighting some of the best piano keyboards that will help you make a more intelligent and informed decision when finding your first or next digital piano.
Most Alesis, Kawai, Korg, Roland, Samick, and Williams keyboards/pianos will work perfectly with Skoove. Here are some recommendations for you:
- Alesis Harmony 61 ~ $/€150
- Alesis Recital Pro ~ $/€400
- Kawai ES-110 ~ $/€600
- Kawai CN-17 ~ $/€900
- Korg XE20 ~ $/€900
- Korg B2 ~ $/€400
- Roland GO Series ~ $/€300
- Roland FP-30 ~ $/€600
- Samick SP-1000
- Samick NSP-270
- Thomann DP-26 ~ $/€300
- Thomann SP-5600 ~ $/€360
- Williams Legato ~ $/€300
- Williams Rhapsody ~ $/€600
All of these can connect to Skoove with a USB cable (sometimes not included).
Generally avoid low cost/no-name brands. We find that they frequently loose MIDI connection and your joy of playing with them will be limited.
Many low and mid-level keyboards are sold without a power adapter or keyboard stand. Double-check that at least a power cord is included (or buy one separately) so you won’t have to constantly swap out batteries.

Keyboards usually come with either a USB or MIDI port. Check the back or underneath and look for something like this:
If you’ve got both, USB is usually easier to work with. Once everything is connected, your keyboard should show up in Skoove. Check the answers below in case you need help with the USB cable or MIDI cable.
If your keyboard isn’t showing up in Skoove, check your keyboard manufacturer’s website to see if a driver is available. Try installing it if you can find one.
Don’t have either type? If your keyboard only has a headphone jack (or nothing at all), that means it can’t send the MIDI data Skoove requires. Unfortunately, the only real solution in that case is to try a different keyboard or play without the feedback features. The good news is that all but the lowest-end keyboards usually have at least one of these ports.

There are different ways to set up your MIDI/USB Keyboard with Skoove on iPhone / iPad:
- Connect via ‘USB Camera Adapter’:Keyboards usually come with either a USB or MIDI port. For iPhone / iPad with a Lightning connector, first connect your USB cable to the keyboard and to a ‘Lightning to USB Camera Adapter’ (pic. 1). You will need a ’30-pin to USB Adapter’ for older iPhone / iPad (pic. 2). Then plug the suitable adapter into the iPhone / iPad. We recommend using only original Apple adapters.Note: The iPhone / iPad may not have output enough power for your MIDI controller.

However, if you need a MIDI In, Out and Thru Adapter (you won’t need this for Skoove), you can use this device like a standard MIDI interface.

Connecting a USB-powered MIDI device should not be any different from one that is powered by a power adapter. For more details, please check our FAQ entry ‘How do I setup my MIDI/USB-keyboard with Skoove on iPhone/iPad’.
iOS devices only have one port which is used to charge and to connect a MIDI device. However, there are dual-splitter devices available on the iOS accessories market.

We recommend you check for the latest downloads, drivers, and updates for your keyboard’s brand. Search the web for “(type your brand and model name), driver, download”. If this doesn’t work, try the brand’s website and search their help, support, knowledge base, and/or download sections.

Thomann MIDI USB 1×1
M-Audio USB Uno USB-MIDI-Interface:
These two are the most compatible and affordable USB-to-MIDI adapters we’ve found. They work with everything, don’t require drivers, and cost only about $/€15-30.
Make sure that you wire the MIDI cables correctly: The In cable goes to your keyboard’s MIDI Out port.
Do not buy cheap or generic MIDI adapters, as incompatible and flakey adapters can cause problems. Do not buy this adapter in particular

Yes, you may already have this cable if you have a printer or scanner. The standard A-to-B USB 2.0 cable is easy to find and is only a few dollars/euros.
