How do I setup my MIDI/USB Keyboard with Skoove on iPhone / iPad?

Arrow down

There are different ways to set up your MIDI/USB Keyboard with Skoove on iPhone / iPad:

  • Connect via 'USB Camera Adapter':

Keyboards usually come with either a USB or MIDI port. For iPhone / iPad with a Lightning connector, first connect your USB cable to the keyboard and to a 'Lightning to USB Camera Adapter' (pic. 1). You will need a '30-pin to USB Adapter' for older iPhone / iPad (pic. 2). Then plug the suitable adapter into the iPhone / iPad. We recommend using only original Apple adapters.

Note: The iPhone / iPad may not have output enough power for your MIDI controller.

  • Connect via 'iRig MIDI 2':

More expensive is the connection via the 'iRig MIDI 2 Connector' (pic. 3). However, if you need a MIDI In, Out and Thru Adapter (you won't need this for Skoove), you can use this device like a standard MIDI interface.

Who can use Skoove? Can children learn with Skoove?

Arrow down

Skoove is best suited for adults and teenagers (ages 12+) as it uses cutting-edge technology and offers a wide range of genres and courses to learn the piano.

However, we know younger kids enjoy learning and having fun with Skoove, and we recommend they do the lessons together with an adult for extra guidance.

I don't have a keyboard. Which keyboard should I buy?

Arrow down

Generally avoid low-cost, no-name brands. We find that they frequently lose MIDI connection. Here are some recommendations for you:

  • ~ $/€150: Alesis Harmony 61 - portable keyboard with 61 keys and built-in speakers
  • ~ $/€150: Casio CTK3500 - with 61 touch sensitive keys, this is a great choice for beginners
  • ~ $/€350: Casio WK6600 - with 76 keys, you'll be able to play a wider range of songs (bundle it with a stand)
  • ~ $/€350-400: Alesis Recital Pro - 88-key beginner digital piano with full-size semi-weighted keys and included power supply
  • ~ $/€1000: Casio AP-460 - 88-key digital stage piano
  • ~ $/€1600-1700: Casio AP-700 BK Celviano - 88 keys
  • ~ $/€3500: Casio GP-300 WE Celviano - 88 keys, you will feel like playing a real piano
  • Most ROLAND keyboards/pianos will work perfectly with Skoove. Just make sure they have a USB or MIDI connection.

All of these can connect to Skoove with a USB cable (sometimes not included).

Many low and mid-level keyboards are sold without a power adapter or keyboard stand. Double-check that at least a power cord is included (or buy one separately) so you don't have to constantly swap out batteries.
